Wash Day Files: prep for Ombre kinky twists

Hey you guys, how are ya? Happy hump day.

My wash days have been going mostly according to my regimen since I took out my box braids (here and here).
I did an egg treatment after the braids came out, just to add strength. Honestly I didn't notice much difference in breakage. It seems like a battle between my relaxed ends and my natural hair- the natural faction is growing in size and its forces are stronger; while the relaxed ends are being massacred and getting no reinforcements.
Breakage is at fever pitch now. Ain't no stopping it till I chop, and I might have jumped the gun with my big-chop-at-24-months announcement.
Anyway, the week after that was the usual all-in-one wash & condition with Shea Moisture Purification Masque.
Now this week, I had a fantastic wash day and I just had to share...

   Protective style prep
Yes I was ready for another protective style barely two weeks after my last. This two-texture business is not akara.

Pre-pooed with Olori Deep Conditioning treatment after misting my sections with water. It was my first time using it as a prepoo and I'm going to review soon but there are spoilers in this post.
Covered with a shower cap for, I would say 3 hours. My hair was baby soft when I took off the shower cap and my curls was clumping in a big way, especially my looser texture at the back.
The relaced hair also clumped... into strings

Shampooed with Africa Naturalistas Black Moisturising Shampoo on some sections and a new purchase- Bobeam shealoe shampoo bar on other sections, just to compare. More on that in a later review post but by and large, my hair was still oh-so-soft.
Deep conditioned with Aubrey's GBP conditioner, twisted the sections and kept under a plastic cap + a towel for a little over an hour *tingle tingle*, then did a final rinse with the twists still in place.
Wrapped in my Earth Therapeutics Quick-dry hair towel for about 10- 15 minutes.
Sealed with a mix of coconut and jojoba oils and called it a night.
My hair was soft, moisturised and happy the next day and I couldn't stop touching it.
I put it in a bun and went out.

Ombre kinky twists
By 7pm I started my ombre kinky twists. I used big sections and wasn't very meticulous because I thought I'd only keep them in for a week.
I used kinky/marley hair in three colours ie
33 at the roots: length quartered. (Can't remember brand)
Supreme Kinky in 30 for the middle: length halved
Janet Collection Afro Marley hair in M27/613 for the tips: length quartered.
I just added as I went along for the ombre look.

Rolled the tips on grey perm rods and dipped in hot water.
Kept them in overnight and by morning:

I'm in looove with this style omigosh. *cue hair toss and dumb blonde pout*.
Now I want to keep them for longer than a week and will redo if I need to.

How was your wash day chicas? You should totally join the wash day experience over here, it would be totally amazing if you did. I will be speaking in this "blonde" accent for a while :p :p (which to me is how Kim Kardashian talks).
Ok bye. Lol

Xx,

  1. I'm totally feeling your blonde ombre braids chica! I can't wait to see how you style them! I can also relate to seeing how thick and full your roots are compared to your thinner straighter relaxed ends! I hateeeddd the look of my wet hair, the only good thing was that once I stretched it, the two textures blended and my hair actually looked decent. LOL

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!
